In addition to forementioned, Play.com included, Shopto.com and UK retailer WH Smith have also lowered the price to under £400 while Gameseek.co.uk is selling the console for a record low £387.87.

Retailers are doing this to give an added boost to console's early sales. According to PSU: "They want more gamers to get their hands on the console so that they can sell more games and increase the user base early this [generation]".

Gameseek.co.uk boss: “We are obviously selling the console at a loss to try and attract new customers to our site. We are sure the PS3 is going to be big business for us over the next eight years so to get a good foothold in this market is essential.”

Taken from Channel 4 (in the UK) teletext page 306 today: -

"We hope Ken Kutaragi isn't near any sharp objects when he hears but the Game Boy Advance has outsold the PS3 for the second month running in America.

The top-selling console in March was the DS with 508K units sold. Next was the PS2 on 280K and then the (still completely sold out) Wii on 259K.

The 360 sold 199K, the PSP 180K, the GBA 148K and the PS3 sold just 130K. Still, at least it beat the GameCube."

Something seems farfetched about the last one. Everything but a gamecube outsells a ps3? i'm no gaming expert but that hardly seems likely when all 3 of the new systems are selling heavily all over leaving stores with shortages and sell outs. something seems a lil fishy about that

Yea I've never even heard of that place. Looks like just another game industry website, all claims a different system is winning. I don't believe any of them. I wouldn't claim PS3 is leading the sales nor would I claim it's second to last in sales. I don't buy it.

It's just a load of corporation wars anyway. Buy the machine that has the games you want to play. The games are what matter, not the machine.

I think that's the key the console companies forgot. They're making it too personal

Of course. If you're for instance have played certain games on PS1 and PS2 over the years you naturally expect you'll be playing the same favourite titles on PS3 as well and it is an important factor. Another very important decisive factor is brand loyalty, games of course are a big part of that. Millions of people have grown up with PS and they want to continue using a PS when they eventually buy the next-gen console. Brand loyalty is in fact expected by many analysts to end the current next-gen console war in Sony's favour.
