First of all, respect to dedicated fans of brainkiller to bring us this field to share our thoughts and buzz.
I've been a long time reader (like maybe 9 years lol) there were other fan sites too back then but now it's pretty much reduced to here so i registered.
It was amusing and aggravating at the same reading all the posts following up to album meeting with the audience
I mean i was kind of detached from prodigy too but if you're still following and waiting a music act for 6-7 years times and saying shit as an opinion... i don't know back in the days forums were about sharing , what are we sharing here? somebody's worthless judgement ? picking things apart rather than building up?.. whatever Hopefully, right on time Prodigy revived with the attack!
All things aside this must be the most technically advanced and "audiophile" record Prodigy ever made.
Whole room vibrates with positive and substantial music. (imagine how would it go with a better quality)
Speaking about "music" this album also seems like the most "musical" album of the band.
Very colorful, bloodful and a lively music. It doesn't sound like it's made sitting and tweaking in front of a dull software.
I have to say -according to my listening- this album doesn't have an overall covering sound or movement unlike the rest. The tracks stand free and independent while they are also in tune with each other like a chorus. So it's a "sound record" without being seized in a dictating sound.
As for track by track review
1. "The Day Is My Enemy"
This track reminds me of satan but in a good way. Satan as the enemy of the public. The driving force of creation and change.Being self sufficent and finding your requirements with self ability.
So it's a really powerful track and a statement that clears the mind as declaring "i'm me and you are you".
2. "Nasty"
When i hear nasty it sounds like it's a stabbing. Being damaging and dangerous. They said it's omen beat but to me it's clearly a different pattern, pace and production.
3. "Rebel Radio"
WOW! this is the "breathe" or "smbu"of this album. This could be the most scary kick drums i heard. I would want to hump this tune if it had a material presence.
4. "Ibiza" (featuring Sleaford Mods)
straight forward, attacking and organic
5. "Destroy"
90s techno/breakbeat is back lol. TR909 style full effect. Solid dance track.
6. "Wild Frontier"
it's one of the sweetest and sentimental prodigy tune. i love the video also.
7. "Rok-Weiler"
prodigy's rokweiler vs die antwoord's pitbull terrier who wins?
8. "Beyond the Deathray"
perfect breather.
9. "Rhythm Bomb"
i want to dance like a girl to this. it's not dubstep at all. more like electro house but with the feeling of 90s.
10. "Roadblox"
Another sentimental tune but with a more serious tone. "take it back", what can i say more?
11. "Get Your Fight On"
This had to be the single instead of nasty. It's just very juicy and lush. it boils my blood. it has tmtth beat but it's not blindly copy pasted. it sounds organic.
12. "Medicine"
Big beat/breakbeat madness. It's awesome and uplifting. This feels like my childhood and 90s. chemical brothers would love this.
13. "Invisible Sun"
this is the higlight of the album to me. It's very unusual of liam. it's like an infusion of trap and all that new american/kanye west type styles with past rock of 80s&90s. goosebumps.
14. "Wall of Death"
Fucking wall of death. Is it only me that finds it's evil cousin of baby's got a temper.
you are not ready to visualize i'm not here to be sterilized. writing's on the wall of death.
an escape from banality.
Since one of the messages of the album is not following the order and being a rebel
i rather enjoy listening the album in this order.
1.tdime
2.rebel radio
3.medicine
4.rokweiler
5.invisible sun
6.roadblox
7.wall of death
8.beyond the deathray
9.destroy
10.nasty
11.gyfo
12.ibiza
13.wild frontier
14.rhythm bomb
i might add further thoughts after i listen in a better quality.
one final note: if i have to decribe the album with one word it's "reinvention".
Liam finally broke the loop of sampling routine of producing and faced the real creation force within him.
