Alright, here we go. Gotta flesh out notes I made while listening.

The Day Is My Enemy - It's a great intro. I think it's been changed slightly from the version that was played on Radio 1, the synths and vocals seem a bit different. Really liking the 8-bit sections, but the chopped up "get down" isn't so great.
Nasty - As it was when it was first released, bit like Omen with bite. Defintely one of the most accessible tracks on the album so you can see why they made it the first single.
Rebel Radio - Cool track, the Heatwave bit works well and I really like the "message is clear" section.
Ibiza - Still a meh from me, the instrumental side is decent enough for being Piranha with a different beat. "Ibeefa" repeated endlessly has gone from dumb to fun for me, but the Sleaford Mods bit still sucks, and the "Transmit" vocal is corny but perhaps intentionally. Glad there's an instrumental version coming out.
Destroy - Cool beat, meatier than the original, Omen bells a bit obvious. Am I mad for thinking the chorus needed a vocal akin to the "Destroy the melody" part of the original? Probably.
Wild Frontier - Has grown on me and is one of my faves on the album right now, if not the fave. I really like the synth that's prevalent in the intro then sits in the background for most of it, have to say it reminds me of a Pendulum track (forget which one) but I like it!
Rok-Weiler - Essentially the same as the live version we've all grown used to, but that's a good thing. I'm glad the intro stayed too.
Beyond The Deathray - By far the biggest disappointment on the album for me, I was really looking forward to it but it's just a screechy mess sadly. The piano would sound really nice if it wasn't drowned out though.
Rhythm Bomb - Biggest surprise (in a positive sense), it's a right stomper, and like I said earlier in the thread it's probably one of Flux Pavilion's best tracks. I swear though the vocal is "gwan", not "bomb"...

It's at this point the relentless nature of the album was starting to grind me down so the last few tracks may be a bit skewed for the first listen!

Roadblox - A relentless Spitfast, the breakdown-y bits are nice, as is the underlying bell bit.
Get Your Fight On - I was just enjoying the intro then suddenly WELCOME TO THE SCENE OF THE CRASH :P The changes to the old live version are largely positive; the synth bit in particular reminds me of World's On Fire, and what the synth should have been on the album version. The controversial bit from the Facebook video works well too.
Medicine - The intro reminded me of AONO, but the rest is fairly unique. Not much to say about it really, it was a decent track.
Invisible Sun - Another track that was hyped up but didn't really live up to it. The "bitcrushed" section or whatever you want to call it is nice, and the change of pace (if not intensity) is welcome. The whiny noise near the end, less welcome. Might be a real grower.
Wall Of Death - It is what it is, a banger. Can't really add to that.

So there you go. Not much is standing out to me right now, but there's not a lot I outright dislike, just Beyond The Deathray (still gutted about that) and Ibiza.

Well I don't want to get anyone mad at me here discussing lossless music...

But to answer your question, a CD maxes out at 16/44 (16 bit/44 khz), which is standard lossless.
24 bit is higher quality than a CD, it's considered HD lossless... the only physical format that you can print this type of quality on would be Blu-ray (which bands have been doing more often lately, such Underworld's "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" reissue and Nirvana's "Nevermind" and "In Utero" reissues)

The Prodigy hi-res release is 24/44 (24 bit/44 khz)

24 bit is closer to the original source file made in the studio after it was all mixed down and mastered since studio gear usually maxes out at 24/96... sometimes 24/192 (like the Virus TI2 Polar's interface), but that's a little bit overkill.
There's different variations of 24 bit, such as 24/44... 24/48... 24/88... 24/96... The Day Is My Enemy hi-res release is 24/44.

But 24 bit WAV is the closest you'll get to Liam getting the file back from the mastering studio and handing it over to you.
There's absolutely no downgrading or compression going on.

A program like Ableton will even let you render at 32 bit...
but if all of your gear maxes out at 24 bit, like most do, it's pointless to save at that quality.
But we'll be moving to 32 bit audio soon.

So yes, this is higher quality than a CD...
Highest possible quality in MP3 is 320kbps
Where as a 16 bit WAV is 1411kbps (16 bit FLAC is 800-1100kbps depending on the track)
And a 24 bit WAV is 2117kbps (24 bit is 1500-1800kbps depending on the track)

So the highest possible audio format is 24 bit WAV if you want absolutely ZERO compression.
FLAC has a way of compressing a file without losing any audio information, hence a smaller file size compared to uncompressed WAV.

So as a producer, if I rendered my final mix/mastered track... I would save it as a 24/96 WAV, which is usually the standard for music producers.

Hope this helps.

Is the 24-bit version clearly better than the 16-bit? I know my sound card supports 24-bit but haven't tried any 24-bit content with it.

All formats, and a half dozen copies of the EP.

I appreciated your response dude. It's all new to me, so thanks for clearing it up. Think it's worth double dipping for those who've already got the 16-bit FLAC?

I went for it :)
If there's a 24 bit version of something, I always grab it.
I think it's worth, especially since Qobuz gives you so many choices...
I like to grab the 24 bit WAV to play on my computer and I put the 24 bit FLAC on my phone so I can hook it up to my car stereo.

Hmm... Yeah, that's a good idea. Tempting too, you know, as an investment for 5 years down the line, or whatever, when presumably 24-bit stuff is a bit more ubiquitous.

I would love to get one of these bad boys for playing lossless...
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/geek ... sic-player

They can play up to 32/384... you can expand memory with SDXC card up to 2TB...
They're a little pricey, like the price of a decent cell phone, but these suckers are future proof.
At least until we surpass 32 bit audio... which I don't think will be anytime soon.
Lowest model starts at $399 with 64gb of internal storage plus expandable memory.
They have 5 different versions, some support high end IEMs (Inner ear monitoring)
Prices are gonna shoot up once they hit the market in the summer.

Yeah, I think the Pono is decent... but for the price, I'd go with the Geek Wave.
Especially since it's future proof, it can play quality we're not even at yet.
The Pono is cool, a good idea, but they just didn't go that extra step to make me really want one.
Compare the specs between the Geek Wave and the Pono and you'll see why.
More memory, higher quality, a battery that you can change... the Geek Wave can play from mp3 all the way up to DSD128 files, which are like SACDs (super audio CD)

Geek Wave uses both a dual core MIPS32 MPU & an 8 core 500MIPS CPU from XMOS = 10 core processing power.

The Pono can only play up to 24/192... also memory maxes out at 128gb
128gb is not really enough memory when it comes to 24 bit audio... where as the Geek Wave gives you the choice to expand to 2TB.
An album that is 24/96 FLAC would around 1.5GB of memory on its own, slightly more if 24/96 WAV
Rechargeable battery could be a pain if you ever have to swap it out.

Plus the Pono looks like a Toberlone :P

The screech. That's the whole point, it's a motherfucking death ray; the white noise makes it live up to the title. It's death. And beyond it. Quite cinematic.

Shame on you NEOREV. You just made me buy a DAC :)

Thanks, man. Appreciate the insights.
