hello

ive been into the band for 15 years now. heavily. rather less recently though but that's due to my changing musical taste

as much as i'd love to see Liam's ideas as the creative development we're all waiting for, BoomTap is the utter opposite to that. let me explain.

every bit on that track is everything Liam's been rebelling against (so far) - becoming a formula-based producer rehasing the current trend. listen to the bassline on that first halfbeat - that's been used by TNGHT and Major Lazer and other dubstep/edm artists for a decade now. its one of the most recognizable sounds of today's edm to my knowledge. the beat in the beginning and the dnb beats that follow - both utterly overused types of beats in today's electronic music. and not just the beats, the samples aswell (as much as we can hear from the recording, but you can get a pretty good idea of the sounds). on the other hand however, firstly - i do give massive credit to liam for that bold sample choice which is fuking hilarious, props for that and secondly, its becoming massively difficult (even impossible) to be original in the dance music scene.

i wish to believe that BoomTap is as cheesy as it is on purpose.

im not trying to slag Liam off, i mean the guy is what? old. he has a family. he's proved himself the king of electronic dance scene in the 90s. i mean the guy was a fuking genius and still earns my full respect. he's got nothing left to prove. only to, however, smear shit on that legacy. but its Liam f-ing Howlett. you DO have high expectations listening to his music, right? the guy set the bar for himself waaaaay to high i fear

so quit whining about users dissapointed by the direction Liam's taking on some of the new stuff. there's no need for political correctness on a prodigy forum, we have enough of that shit in the world these days (watch steve hughes 'offended' skit on youtube, fkin hilarious). not everybody likes a track cause there's "prodigy" written on it. i was overly amazed by TDME when it came out, now it feels dated, uninspired and boring. i still do listen to IMD though (not to mention the classic stuff and AONO).

prodigy has a vast fanbase since the beginning of 90s. and as some1 very accurately stated - there were people unhappy with the sound even in the early days since prodigy was constantly evolving and experimenting. now, having said that, its cool that Liam's still experimenting, but Boom Tap is everything Liam's supposed to be against for nowadays, so TO ME its garbage.

on a happy note - im glad to hear breakbeats in Resonate and the Need Some1 vocal sample + a "hey" on the snares. sounds good. gives me hope that he is more old skool minded as he keeps saying. bring out the 303s 808s and breakbeats Liam. everything has been done already anyway... much of it pioneered by yourself, so dont be afraid to bring out that old skool prodigy vibe and get fukin loony in the jungle bizness.

I can certainly listen to those tracks without getting a headache. You just softened up. :P

I did soften up, but that does not change that they became way more aggresive in sound also, so I would have hated these songs in the 90's aswell. The only newer tracks I really thinks keeps the Prodigy style is TMTTH, Thunder, Destroy. Hope Liam will do more like that style, without reusing the bass/drum-lines from TMTTH again! (which also was used in Rip Up the Sound System).

you pretty much nailed my opinion here friend...im 41 years old so obviously I lived the early 90's rave/prodigy era, honestly nobody in that early techno scene had Liam howletts musical ability(s) both on the keyboards and on the samplers...I personally know Ian bland(dream frequency) who prodigy did a remix for and he agrees that nobody has even come close to his talent to this day... NOBODY,there were some really good artists and tracks but prodigy where different league and this is the reason that I am AMAZED that his musical output since FOTL has been in my opinion very poor, this boom tap track is almost like a joke, like so bad its unlistenable and knocked up in Ableton in what 5 minutes?

I can't really stop there..AONO,IMD AND TDIME seriously lack good music from such a good composer even though his talent shines through on deathray, wild frontier and omen...the guy has seriously good knowledge and ear for good chord structure, wtf happened?

no disrespect to any fan here but I just cannot believe how much faith they have in Liam Howlett in 2017,i mean telling fans that there will be a single before the years ends is like pissing in their face?...where is the fan respect...ive even read that fans flock to Neil mclennans twitter to see if he is back of holiday?

I can deal with howletts cocky and sometimes arrogant attitude he has in interviews but BULSHIITING AS AN ARTIST TO THE FANS IS MINDBLOWINGLY BAD...IS HE TRYING TO BE PUNK?

i agree with a lot you say.

had a long car ride today and i re listened eddie temple morries interview on spotify ("Liam Howlett - In Conversation - Rebel Radio - The Prodigy")

i do believe they are still very much motivated. at the downside i kinda get impression.. they have too narrow focus - to be contrast to current EDM scene and very little contemporary inspirations.
if you have listened the interview.. playthrough he's favourite tunes from day one... hearing specials for first time, public enemy and rage before jilted ... all those bands had impact on their sound.

in todays perspective.. they mention respect for DnB scene, hence the DnB type of beats on TDIME and seems like on new ones also.

i'm really glad if there will be news soon. that would mean he had something strong to inspire him. best stuff are always made quickly. if there is going to be long delays, then we will be fucked.

appreciate your opinion.
i don't know about you guys but the boom tap "backlash" reminds me a lot of the "charlie" outcry.
i hope liam doesn't bin the track because some fans hate it.
i like the tongue-in-cheek attitude of the track. it's catchy, it's fun, it's still prodigy. keep it up, liam.

Charlie has a fun sample on top of an amazing tune.

Boom Tap has a fun sample on top of a very generic drum and bass beat.
Sounds like Liam found 2 loops in a sample pack, put them together and called it a day.
:/

Wouldnt mind if there was a proper drum and bass direction
in the new record...
It would at least be.. a direction...
for what is sounding more and more like a
band that is just retreading ground, year after year.

Also, there's these things called melodies...
and none of the new tracks have any.

Hey people...wait a minute...do not criticize if you dont understand whats liam doing with "boom tap" track,
Liam is super intelligent man(he has inner kid), if you shit so much he will give us shit...
and he will enjoy original material not us (becouse of shitters).Be patient understand his style and massage. He hides something in plain sight...but is more hard to understand when you have only sound.

All you fans act like you want to see him strip naked.
dont be a fan, be the warrior!

What we heard were obviously tests. Just another proof that we've been Liamed, deeper than ever.

Nothing to be worried about, business as usual, album will come out when it's done and will be smashing.
