To be fair to Liam he's recorded hundreds of tracks over the years. He can't remember every jam he's played live, especially if it was only played once. I didn't remember this track either (if today wasn't the first time I've heard it).

They were signed upon playing finished material, no doubt.

Most record companies work on hearing demos and then pay for the work to be completed and mastered. I doubt he’ll have taken them finished tracks. So I think it’s a fair option.
