I was listening to Annie Mac waiting for her to play it. Thought she was blanking it, but no, last track of the show. I just can’t see it working on Radio 6.

As for the track, it felt a bit like World’s on Fire live vs studio version. The snippets made it feel more exciting than it is at the start. The 10,000 degrees lyric feels jarring. I like the little riff that is added in towards the end although it is too quiet in my opinion.

I take comfort that this only has a lyric video. I think it’s an opener to the real singles to come which will get a proper video.
A reminder of who The Prodigy are. Also glad Keith isn’t on it. I’m hoping they have an epic Maxim and Keith song to come.

I’m really happy with the direction so far but really really want better structure in the tracks to come.

btw Ekko, if u r reading this. i would like to know what productions DO you prefer. like some examples.

You mean in terms of drum sound or generally?

Some of the Noisia stuff is well done, although they tend to "sharpen" their drums a little too much for my taste, almost like the opposite of what Howlett does, were everything sounds a bit unprecise and 'too analogue'. A Howlett bassdrum these days misses that defined, pithy mid range portion that lends it the snappyness. The snares are clangy but also not really on point and overall a bit hollow. This has gotten better, though, I remember when they and the complete drum top range sounded almost like white noise. Howlett and his team compress the shit out of everything, but forget about the funk, which is like a cardinal sin for "bangin" electronic breakbeat pattern based music.

A good mix of drum punch that's still keeping the funk in there is what Ed and Op did on 'Travel The Galaxy', which is overall a really good record, in terms of tunes and how to make a fucking good drums-bass amalgamation.

I've played their tunes a lot when I still DJ'ed and their tunes were among the ones that people responded the most manically to on the dancefloor.

Really like Light Up the Sky, much better than Need Some1. Love the synths and beats, a hard hitting track and very Prodigy. This makes me look forward to the rest of the album much more!

Noisia is only good when they're not making boring, generic drum n bass music. Apparently it takes 3 guys to stand behind turntables. Such a boring group live to watch. You can have great sound design and still a boring track. Though I find most drum n bass boring because it's a very constrictive genre, like dubstep. Not many drum n bass artists travel outside the usual 2 or 3 beat patterns known for the genre. Noisia could be great if they expanded their pallette and didn't stay within the dnb genre so much.

I don't like how the sound seems to cut out completely for less than half a second after maxim says "ten thousand degrees," the ending sounds messy, and "here come the dance" is grammatically cringy. Those issues aside... It's a banger :Firestarter:

This was about the production side. Can't say I like most of their tracks.

Cool if Liam is into UFO's. If so all we need now is for him to do one of those UFO documentaries like Danny Dyer did and we're sorted.

Do you mean the hi hats, etc? If so I really like the way that works on some tracks. It's hard to pick out exactly what's going on but I like the way it adds atmosphere to something when it's done in a certain way.

Yeah, the overheads. I like that too. They can (and should) carry atmosphere and information about the room they're in (be that real or virtual), but if they get squashed and distorted too much, they loose that information.

Ah ok, I might notice it as I'm listening to some of their other stuff soon, haven't heard a big chunk of Prodigy music for ages, should really do that again soon because there's a good few tracks I've kind of forgotten.

Jilted and FoTL are two of my fave albums, but a lot of the other stuff apart from the last album is a blur at times.

/offtopic

I think Noisia is pretty versatile in their own field, even though most of their stuff is drum n bass. Their last album 'Outer Edges' had a cool concept with variation and imo some of the best sound design around at the moment. I can't remember a recent production which could sound-wise exceed tracks like 'Sinkhole' from that album. Sounds mad on both headphones and loud speakers, try it out! :-D They should do breakbeats though...that would be something.

Not liking all their stuff and certainly not over Prodigy, but in terms on sound engineering I have to admit Liam is far behind those guys. I also respect that they do their own visuals and what not: the "three-guy-dj-setup" is actually one of them programming the visuals on the go while two others rock the music "live" (by this I mean Ableton, like what Liam does live).

Is it me or that sound used in 0:48 reminds main hook used in Breathe?

what the background noise at 2:11 when the track goes quiet with synth over it ?
ive heard that before
does sound like the beginning of the main hook in breathe on loop
love this track apart from the high pitch vocal bit before the sampled lyrics kick in
