Why don't you want an iPod ?

It's user-friendly, and has a good design...

I suggest you go look for some samsung mp3 players,
those are good 2

iPod's are nice... but you can't easily use it as an external hard disk. You also can't load music on it easily from other computers, as you will need to use iTunes to put music on your player. Cheaper Creative MP3 players are easy to use. You can plug them in to your computer directly, no use for an extra cable to connect it. It's recognized as an external disk and you can simply drag and drop MP3 files on there which you can play straight away. No need for extra software. Negative side is the small capacity. I believe currently it's around 2GB for these flash drives which Creative offers. If you get a Creative with a bigger capacity, you can't simply drag and drop files anymore as you will need to use software to put the tunes on your MP3 player. I'm still looking for a nice MP3 player on which I can drag and drop files, preferably with a line in as well, and which has a capacity of more than 2GB...

Do you mean the big Nomad JB3 by Creative?

I agree with you there, Boubafeet. I have a 2 GB mp3 player as well, and I think it's enough to have like 18 albums and a handfull of other tracks by various artists. If I carry a say 30 GB package of music I skip around listening to parts of track which remind me of other tracks and so on, which make me confused of what to listen to. 2 GB is just fine for on-the-go. It's still about roughly about 400 mp3s, mind.

Do you happen to know of another brand which might meet my demands?
Cheers :)

@Arie: My nomad jukebox 3 has a line in feature, i think it is becoming scarcer these days to find an mp3 player with line in as standard due to the dumbed-down ipod generation.

as for drag and drop, creative nomad/zen/etc software has 'drag-and-dropability' where you can just 'chuck your junk' onto said mp3 player.

i personally wish not to install the jukebox software, but instead install the drivers and just use winamp and its 'Media Library', where you can simply drag and drop files to the playlist window and send them to the mp3 player from there via the 'send to' feature.

personally i have nomad jukebox 3 and creative zen touch, both fairly cheap models imo.

appologies for the hefty essay but am doing my dissertation at the minute.

Thank you for your reply, but the models which you mention do not do what I want them to if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking for an MP3 player which I can use as hard disk too, but if I simply drag and drop MP3-files on it, I want to be able to play those straight, without having to use any software at all. Those more simple Creative flash players work like this and that is what I'm after... but the storage capacity of those is quite low still and they don't have a line in ;(
