It's a repetitive button-masher that can be beaten in 10 hours. The coolest bit is the Decepticon levels in which you simply just try to level the city as quick as you can. But this might be a good thing for an 11 year old.
If he's good at video games and likes a challenge, I would suggest the 2004 Atari Transformers game based off the Armada cannon. That game is HARD but is easily the best Transformers game out there.

The 2004 one is way more better too
