Indy 4: B Movie

No CG? And more story details.

July 9, 2007 - While George Lucas continually pushed Star Wars in the direction of using digital cameras and new computer-based filmmaking techniques, he's letting Steven Spielberg shoot Indiana Jones IV using more traditional methods — keeping it grounded in its roots as a historical pulp adventure.

Producer Frank Marshall explained this approach to the New Haven Register: "Steven is very aware of the process and we're not cheating with CG (computer graphics) at all. It keeps the B movie feel."

Photography at the New Haven location has now wrapped, and the crew is heading to Hawaii where filming will continue. Hawaii is likely to stand in for various tropical locations in Central or South America.

Meanwhile, more exposition on what exactly took place in New Haven is emerging from the rumor mill.

Warning: The remainder of this article contains spoilers!

We already know that New Haven and Yale University provide the locale for an intense chase sequence involving Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf on a motorbike and the bad guys in a black sedan(s).

It appears — and this is only informed speculation — that near the beginning of the film, while Dr. Jones is teaching a class, he is disrupted by anti-Communist demonstrations and the astonishing appearance of his old mentor Abner Ravenwood (source: Ain't It Cool News), who was mentioned in Raiders and long presumed dead. Indy rushes out to meet him, but the Russians are after Ravenwood too, and for some reason Ravenwood's grandson Mutt (played by Shia) is also in town. A chase breaks out between secret government agents (probably Russian, but possibly American or both) and Jones — who's forced to team up with Mutt on his motorcycle. It's not clear if the villains have nabbed old Abner or are merely trying to get their hands on him, but once it's all over, Indy and the Ravenwoods discuss mysterious topics like Area 51, aliens, and ancient crystal skulls.

Indiana Jones 4 is off to a solid, exciting start, and there's bound to be more interesting news in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned!

Love the fact that no computer graphics will be used! Image

Wow, So Indy Will Be Searching for [Removed by Spoiler Police]?
Jul 10th 2007 11:33AM by Christopher Campbell

As I said just the other day, before the actual movie comes out, a lot of us are going to know way too much about Indiana Jones 4. If you are one of those who don't want to know possible plot spoilers, you should definitely stop reading right now. Even though the following is just a rumor, it could be true. And just the chance that it could be true might have you thinking about it for the next year or so.

According to Quint at Aint it Cool News, two separate sources have revealed that the next movie brings the franchise full circle by returning focus to the Ark of the Covenant. Yes, just like in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy will be searching for the Ark, but this time he will be saving it from the hands of the Russians rather than the Nazis (remember, this film takes place in the '50s). Also mentioned is the connectable tidbit that John Hurt is playing Abner Ravenwood, who is referenced in Raiders as Marion's father, who had supposedly died while searching for the Ark. Now, I'm really disappointed Sean Connery isn't doing this; we could have had both of Shia LaBeouf's character's grandfathers in the same movie. I don't know why that would be interesting, but wouldn't it be?

So, never mind that chronologically the next Indiana Jones movie doesn't bookend with Raiders. Why not have him go after those rocks from the Temple of Doom again? (Besides the fact that that would suck). Anyway, Quint doesn't really think this could be the actual plot, and he claims to have other sources giving him other information. Personally, I'm hoping for the Chariots of the Gods storyline that we've heard about in the past. I liked imagining Indiana Jones and the Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This new plot rumor sounds more like Raiders of the Lost Ark II, which goes completely against what I love about the franchise -- that each adventure is pretty much a stand-alone story. We must remember how disappointing and redundant Spielberg's last sequel was (and that it was also written by David Koepp), so maybe this one could be somewhat of a retread. Or, it could be all about Indy's search for The Great White Pyramid. Hopefully we'll keep getting more of these rumors so that we have no idea which one to believe and then can still be surprised come Memorial Day 2008.

The latest Indiana Jones movie gets a title
Mon Sep 10, 2007 6:37PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The battle to name the new Indiana Jones film is over, and the winner is "The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

Forget about "Indiana Jones and the City of Gods" or even "Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds," two of the potential names registered by producers Lucasfilm Ltd. The next movie featuring the two-fisted adventurer will be called "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

Actor Shia LaBeouf, who has been cast to play Jones' son in the film, blurted out the title on stage at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.

But Lucasfilm, which is producing the fourth Harrison Ford-starring installment of the Indiana Jones series, was quick to confirm the new title on Monday.

The film is to be directed by Steven Spielberg and is slated for release in May 2008.

LaBeouf's revelation ends months of speculation as to what the new film will be called.

What do you think of the title of fourth Indy adventure? At first I thought it was kinda crappy but I'm getting used to it. It does suit the pulp adventure theme of Indy movies very well and I'd imagine the poster will look cool and grim with a title like that.

Not sure if he's after the ark or not but I have faith in Spielberg. He hasn't lost his touch over the years and he's the master of the adventure genre. So no matter what Indy's hunting it should be good fun. Only slight concern I actually have is the Indy's son part.

i'm wondering how they gonna explain why indy is 20 years older. This is all stupid, he is almost a grandpa here, he is much older comparing with other indy movies, does writters forget that indy had drunk an holy grail which gave him immortality, so he should looks like 20 years ago, without any mark of becoming old.....as far as i know of course:) Agree with me or not??
