I realized that the ps3 with the 60 Gig hard drive might be cheaper than a xbox 360. Lets do some math...

XBOX 360 core $300
Hard Drive = $100
Wireless network adapter $100
HD DVD External Unit $200 (estimate according to Ign.com)

Total = $700

Playstation 3 console (premium) $600
Includes: Wireless Internet, 60 gig hard drive and Blu Ray Player

Total = $600

Hard drive optional, wireless adaptor optional, hd dvd drive optional

Ps3... you got no choice

you dont need a wireless adapter to use Xbox live wirelessly...if you have a computer with a wireless connection you can run a ethernet cable to the 360...on top of that demo's on XBOX live are free...PS3 its supposidly going to be $1 a demo from which isnt much i understand but i personally think demo's should be free....not to mention that not everyone has an HD tv which could utilize the HD/Blu-ray player

1. I have a wireless network at home so I need the wireless adaptor for the 360 (I hate all the cables around my room).

2. I do want a hard drive so I can save my files (and demos!)

3. I do own a HDTV so I want an HD player (either HD DVD or Blu Ray).

For me the ps3 is cheaper considering my needs... for other folks might not be the case...

incorrect. ps3 has multiple platform versions. much like the xbox it will have upgrades in a sense only time will tell which is cheaper.

Well for Mexicanfan the PS3 is actually a better value for him in terms of overall cost. Oracle, you're wrong though. The most exspensive parts of the PS3 are in both packages.

The question isn't what's expensive in the machines. It's which is cheaper. Through upgrades the xbox 360 has packages up to over 630 USD. Considering the PS3 isn't even out yet makes this topic pointless, I will say again though... Time will tell...

What the hell are you talking about? the 360 only has two official packages. One is $299, and one is $399. Any other pckage you've seen is done by the store. The PS3 also has two packages coming out. One price is $399 and one is $499. I'm sure the PS3 will also have store created packages that put it near the $1,000.

Sony just said today that they're gonna have 20% less consoles ready at launch... im quite sure that they will have package deals at most places as they did with the 360 when it came out....but the deciding factor shouldnt be the price...i think even with what you threw on there you need to look at the new GEARS OF WAR videos that came out on gametrailers.com today...if you could find anything that looked close to that good coming out on the PS3 i would personally suck you off...and im not gay or anything like that...thats just how incredible the gears of war graphics are...check out the new videos they honestly upped the graphics from ALL of the videos i had seen prior...
