Indiana Jones Will Be Mostly CGI-Free, Designer Tells
Mar 31 2008

Will Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull feature Indy ducking CGI boulders and reacting to greenscreen aliens? Not according to production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas, who also worked on Superman Returns and X2: X-Men United. We just talked to Dyas, who says he built all of the movie's sets, with little or no greenscreen. More details, and a gallery of Dyas' designs from the link:

This is excellent news! The look of the teaser trailer got me a bit worried that Spielberg had eaten his words.

The first actual trailer in crystal clear HD! Still not showing too much of the movie or it's plot which is fine by me. The less I know about the plot before seeing it the better. (I've skipped the leaked story outline.) Note: Still not digging that stupid sounding remix of the the Indy theme that they first used in the teaser trailer and now again in this.

Just saw this. What a load of steaming crap. I'm not gonna spoiler it for anyone, but don't be surprised if you start thinking 'Oh My God' about halfway through the film.

Thank god I didn't have to pay to see it..

I saw it yesterday in the theater. Its an enjoyable indiana movie. I think if you 're expecting too much you'll be disappointed.

I'd at least expect a movie that actually has a plot that makes sense. Sure it's an action movie but it's swamped with too much CGI and totally unrealistic situations. The first half wasn't that bad, but the last half was just a case of 'Let's throw as much money as possible at the screen in the hope that no-one realises we don't actually have any semblance of a plot, but we don't really care anyway because people nowadays don't worry how implausible it is as long as the CGI looks cool'.

I felt like I watching a film that was clearly aimed at selling as much merchandise as possible rather than a decent action flick with a quality storyline and characters.

It was goofy.

Try to watch Shai LeBeouf swinging on vines with monkeys without putting your face in your hands.

until it turned into a random SCI-FI movie.... which killed the movie..

Fixed that for you. :-D

It was a ok movie. Worst of all the Indy's of course but it was dumb fun I guess.

I kinda agree. The alien scenes near the end certainly could have better. In fact the whole purpose of the crystal skulls could and should have been more meaningful and more clearly defined. They lacked a deeper purpose in the overall scheme of things. Many of the key chracters were also borderline extras in the movie. Luckily though Harrison was still Indy, even if a bit older one, and Shia LaBeouf as his son did imho an excellent job. Overall it was/is a very enjoyable movie with some really enjoyable action scenes (like the one involving the motorcycle chase). Enjoyable in that rare and special Indy/Spielberg way. I do believe the movie would have been better with less CGI, something which ultimately separates this from it's predecessors. This was most definitely a Lucas influence, and an unfortunate one at that. Spielberg unlike Lucas (and 99% of all directors) never overuses CGI in his own movies. He's really one of the very few directors of sci-fi/action movies these days who's movies don't look like cartoons. He uses CGI very sparingly, 'War of The Worlds' is a very good example of this. Unfortunately in the case of Indy movies Spielberg is more of a hired hand, as he himself said on some the Indy DVD extras. But Indy movies as always are targeted for the whole family and I'm sure that kids of today are perfectly okay with the CGI stuff and they are the new generation of Indy fans who'll be passing the Indy flame to their kids some day. I'm pretty sure I get used to Indy with CGI eventually, unless of course Spielberg releases a director's cut of the movie.

I was pretty disappointed by this latest film. Not only from Indiana Jones expectations but the king of directors - Steven Spielberg expectations.

The first half was quite good but the second half got a lot worse and that sci-fi bit ruined it for me. 6/10
