Anyone knoe some good sites with royalty free vocal samples? And does anyone know how you can determine if a vocal sample is roylty free?

-Are sample vocals royalty free if you for instance buy a sample cd with vocals?

Anyway some good sites to samples would help me a lot - google is too crowded with bad samples

You will rarely find a true 'royalty free' sample CD. Most will have certain licensing requirements with them...and it's best to cateregorise them by price:

-Some sample CD's (the cheaper ones) will include a limited use licence, meaning you can use them in your productions but require you to purchase a commercial licence if you use them for profit.
-Other CD's (the more expensive ones) will include a commercial licence by default. You can use their samples but sometimes require either a report to the vendor or a mention in your track's credits.

Be wary of "free" sample CD's or downloads. You more often than not have no idea where the samples originally came from, and are likely to bite you on the arse with lawsuits if you use them commercially.

how about breaks? Can you really use them or is there a good chance you will get a lawsuit? I always think that baselines, melodies and vocals are more likely to give that problem?

Nah man, everything, I mean everything from another piece of music/recording that's like under 50 years old or something similar can't be used without consent. That's why I use very old skool samples from old soul/roots records.

Just saw all the replies since my last post now.

Yeah Aquila you're right. It's gonna bite you in the arse. I think bands like Prodigy get their recordlabel to sort all this legal stuff out and pays for the use of samples.

And even though "http://www.breakbeat-paradise.com/samplesite/bb_breakbeat.php" says that the samples are royalty free I have no possible way to find out for myself. And I don't really think they are free to use because some of the vocals sounds quite wellknown if you know what I mean, hehe.

Anyway it's a shame 'cause I really need vocals for some of my music and there's a lot of nice samples on the net but I think they are under copyright protection.

So maybe I'll give s0ren a go :)
