I would rather see him as president than that old fart of McCain who is comited to staying in Iraq for at least 100 years and probably gonna start a new war (Iran)

1. Dude, don't stereotype America, not all people are racist. My wife is white and she loves Obama. I think 60% of people under 40 yrs old support Obama (and that includes whites  ). The problem is with the older folks (55 yrs+) that go heavily towards McCain. I know that racism is prevalent in older people because they grew up in the 50's and 60's where racism was common. Obama assasinated? dude, secret service is all over him.

2. Why? Obama is going to increase taxes on the upper class people (those that make $250k or more) and give it to the middle class which is cool with me. Also, he is going to remove all the tax breaks that Bush gave to the oil companies. Also, he is going to make US troops leave Iraq in 16 month or so after he becomes president

3. What do you mean by not respecting the national anthem? This guy is a patriot. Obama is trying really hard to change the view of europeans and the rest of the world towards America. Not everybody is a dick like Bush and I think he represents what America is all about... diversity and hope.

not stereotyping america...born and raised in orange county california

i didnt say all people are racist...i said there are some elements within the u.s. the will not accept having a black president and he will be under a very large threat if he is elected

obama is more popular with younger people because he has a good pr manager...he really says nothing substantial just little soundbites and because people identify more with someone who is more like themselves, ie, age, race, etc.

probably mccain has a greater popularity in the 55+ age group is because they are of the same generation...not because mccain is white and obama is black and all the old folks are racist and didnt mingle with the "coloreds"

how is racism more prevalent in older people...just because of when they grew up?????you dont think racism is just as prevalent today...it is just not as public...and when you say racism you are referring to whites only????we all know that blacks, hispanics, asians, etc cant be racist just whites...people might want to believe that the world can be the united colors of benetton....

your wife is white and she likes obama...you say that like "wow she is white and she can like a black man for president"...should it matter what color your wife is if she likes obama

i get so tired of people saying that if you say anything against someone who is non-white then you are racist...like no non-whites cant be fucked up....just like this hyphenated american crap...cut the shit either be an american or whatever but not "insert ethnicity here"-american...everyone but the native indians are something-american...why do you have to emphasize it...does it really matter that much...would you rather people relate to you on the basis of your ethnicity or who you are and how you act

we propegate the race issue by always identifying someone as whatever-american...if they are not white...i never hear the term anglo-american, gaelic-american or celtic-american on the news...it doesnt matter what ethnicity you are or what color...until everyone stops referring to race then racism will not end.....but dont say it is just a white thing

bottom line people living in america need to be american first and whatever else second...or get the fuck out and go back to the first part of your hyphenated title

celebrate your heritage and keep it alive but if you live here and you are a citizen then be an american first...

obama is telling the people what they want to hear...if he takes away the tax breaks from the oil companies do you think they will just say ok...they will maintain their profit margin which means higher prices to you and me to make up the difference...it sounds good but.....

troops leaving iraq...believe it when i see it...if we leave now that whole region will become destabilized and whatever we have accomplished will be undone...these people are waiting for us to leave...i know...i dealt with iraqi army and tribal leaders on a daily basis...each major faction wants to control the country and there willl be a huge civil war...it will be much worse than when we got there...iran is just waiting for that to happen......if iran invaded iraq how likely would it be that the american people would support another major conflict to go in there and straighten things out....not too likely

how is he a patriot???????thats why he doesnt put his hand over his heart when the national anthem plays????i see a lot of americans who dont do that but the guy wants to be the president...come on...not to mention the american hating church he belongs to...that he has attended for many years...the same church that says "not god bless america but go
ddamn america" wtf is that?????he had the choice to stop attending...no this dude is not as american as he should be

he wears the american flag pin now after a lot of questions were asked of him about not wearing one...in an interview when asked why he did not wear an american flag pin he said he didnt want to take sides...what the fuck  he didnt want the other nations of the world to see him as too american or aggressive?????????he said that......

if the upper income level is taxed more, that money doesnt go to lthe lower incomes...that is just more money for the government and that doesnt mean they will spend it to better the lives of the lower incomes...no such thing as robin hood...

and changing the view of the world towards america??????? who cares...if we do what is right then it doesnt matter...we cant base our policy on what the world will think...there will always be those that dont like who we are or what we do no matter what...i have been to many places in the world and i know what people think about america but it mostly what is put out by their media...same with obama and the germans...do you think they came to see him because he will make changes and the world will be a better place or because it was an event and time off from work...what do they know other than what their media has put out...and remember the media is not about putting out information but promoting an agenda...a useful pr tool

yeah i know its a global community and all but who do you think would come to the aid of the u.s. if we needed it???i think it would be a short list....we as a nation, because we are the only nation capable of influencing any point on the globe, have a responsibilty to help others as it would benefit the global community

the same people that bash the u.s. dont give a fuck if anyone likes their policies...most of the u.s. bashing is straight jealousy...they might say we are fucked up but i am sure given the choice between living in a 2d or 3rd world country and having a nice place to live, cable tv, internet, nice car and fast food they would choose the latter

and dont believe that the president or anyone is untouchable...given the proper resources and motivation anyone can be killed...it might be difficult but not impossible...especially if you have someone who is not worried about escaping

sorry about being so long

Interesting conversation. I didn't get to see his speach in Germany - can anyone tell me where I can stream it from?

Oh and I just stumbled on two quotes with which I can not agree.

1. : America needs to stop acting like the worlds policeman. Just because the US does something it doesn't mean they are right. No country should be allmighty alone. They need to work more with the FN, EU etc. Some day it might pay off to be good allies.

2. : I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like the latter. For instance the munks in Tibet etc.
Personally I wouldn't live in america but then I am not from a "2d or 3rd world country" as you put it so maybe that's why.

/My opinions

couldn't agree more.

what i find quite interesting is that at the end of the last century we were informed that america had 'won'.

now we see that russia is rich and powerful again, and china is racing forward - while the american economy is crashing, and europe is starting to have problems.

americans are starting to sound like the british in the 1950's. their empire is on the way out, but they haven't noticed, and still think the world revolves around them.
meanwhile - we're all just living our lives and smiling politely....

it's all kinda ironic really

1. So you come from one of the wealthiest cities in the USA.

2. Of course there will be people who will not tolerate a black president but your reasoning that he is going to be assassinated is ridiculous. I am sure some people want him dead but Obama is fine.

3. Obama a good PR manager? this is called "Charisma". You say that Obama is not being substantial but if you lived in the USA you will see that he is on the news all the time. Even McCain on his website posted some videos about how the press "loves Obama". If you want to know more about his plans visit his website, watch some news channels and you will get his points of view. My wife and I identify with Obama because of his views and plans, not because of his race, gender or other factor.

4. People that are 55+ lived in a timeframe where America discriminated against all minorities. You will always live with the values that your parents taught you. I am not saying that everybody over 55+ is racist towards minorities but a majority of these folks grew up during a time where it was acceptable to discriminate agans blacks, hispanics and others. Older people tend to be more stubborn and less open to different points of view. That is a fact. My wife's grandparents are your typical older white folks. He is a Vietnam veteran and she was always the housewife. When I met him, he did not like me because I am mexican. He wouldn't even shake my hand. Grandma always apologized for this and she said that she didnt mind that I was mexican. Again, not everybody over 55+ is racist but from my experience here in USA, I definitely see that there is a problem with this population. Even Tiger Woods initially had problems in being accepted at some tournaments like The Masters because the PGA is ruled by a bunch of old white folks.

5. Whites, blacks, hispanics, etc , everybody can be a racist, assholes, idiots, etc. I will say that some minorities do take advantage of this. I can definitely see why some whites might complain about being called racists if they complain about a minority. I guess is that the white people were the ones discriminating since the slave days. Who had slaves? the whites.

6. Why do you mean by "being an American first"? do you mean, speak english, play rock or hip-hop music, eat hamburgers and buy a fucking Ipod? is that what an American is? I like speaking spanish and eating mexican food and playing mexican music outside my house, would you have a problem with that if you were my neighbor in America?

7. Obama is saying what he believes in. He is not catering to blacks or latinos or whatever. How do you come to the conclusion that what he is saying is what the people want to hear? People are tired of the Bush administration and he is saying what he believes in and coincidentally thats what America wants.

8. We have not accomplished shit in Iraq, of course they will have problems once american troops leave, different groups are going to fight for control. I hate the republicans argument that we need to stay there otherwise we will lose the fight in Iraq, bullshit, we are not going to win in Iraq. America has lost the war in Iraq and we need to get the fuck out there ASAP. Over 4000 american soldiers dead in this shitty war that MCcain approved. Obama did not approve this war by the way.

9. Who gives a damn about Obama putting his hand on his heart during the national anthem, who cares if he does not wear a USA pin on his chest. I want someone who is going to restore the economy and end the illegal war on Iraq. You think Europeans care that much about Obama not having his hand on his chest during the anthem? I like Obama because he wants to stop the "american arrogance" that the bush administraton created around the world.

10. As a FYI, Obama stopped going to that church and he said over and over again that he does not agree with the minister's points of view. Your reasoning is pretty flawed. Let me give you an example. You go to a church for years and you are close to your minister. Then one day he does a speech where he attacks gays and lesbians, saying that they are the evil of the world. Will that make you a homophobic? Based on your reasoning then I guess you are a homophobic because you attend his church.

11. Obama has proposed an increase in taxes for the wealthy and he has said that he is going to give $1,000 per year to middle income families. The increase in taxes for the rich is going to cover Universal Healthcare expenses which a lot of people need because they do not have any insurance.

12. Who cares about the view of the world towards America? America needs the support of Europe and Asia in eradicating terrorism and other problems around the world. We need NATO and other groups in order to stop terrorism. We need to make amends with the rest of the world because America cannot be alone. Bush fucked up America and now the rest of the world sees Americans as cocky, selfish, idiots, etc.

13. I was born and raised in a third world country (Mexico). You have no idea how much I love America. This country has given me so much (free college education, a job, a safe environment , etc...) Unfortunately, I had to leave Mexico and come over here where I knew I could have a good life. It is sad that the rest of the world sees America as a bunch of babies because I know how good it is in here.

One final thing, are you a McCain supporter?

The world does revolve around America. If a major tragedy happens in a country it seems that America has to get involved otherwise we are called assholes. Example: tsunami a few years ago. I remember the European press complaining that America was not doing enough to provide aid. WTF? If the world does not revolve around America then why is so much expected of this country?

You are living your life in peace and smiling politely because of this little thing called World War 2. America saved your ass during this war otherwise right now you probably would be speaking German and having a swastika around your flag.

dude get your facts straight about Obama before you bashing and rehashing what was proven to be a B.S. attempt to tarnish this man's image.

first off, the image was said to be taken during the Pledge of Allegience which is when you put your hand over your heart, when it was IN FACT taken during the National Anthem which does not require you to put your hand over your heart. some people do, some people take off their hats, some stand straight up with the hands at their sides, and some sing along.

so before you go off quoting false accusations because you heard it from a proven to false website and featured on the biased and unfair media, do a little research.

it's sad how people can't take a little time to read and do research instead of just obeying and regurgitating the propaganda being shoved down our throats.

PostPosted: Sun Jul 27, 2008 9:48 pm
here we go again, another regurgitated response about Obama's former church leader. once again proven, you speak your mind and it says something negatively about our country... your Anti-America, your unpatriotic, you're a terroist loving douchbag

oh and by the way, his Anti-American church you talk about... the preacher said the terrorism that is affecting the US and the world today was created by America's own terrorism.

which isn't too far off from the truth if you ask me.

i don't see a difference between Bush and Saddam, both put innocent people into mass graves as far as i'm concerned
