You are living your life in peace and smiling politely because of this little thing called World War 2. America saved your ass during this war otherwise right now you probably would be speaking German and having a swastika around your flag.

umm... no.
russia, together with the western allies, defeated germany and the axis powers in europe.
in the far east america nuked 2 cities packed with civilians in japan to claim victory there. not something to be proud of really.
try getting your information from reality and not hollywood mate.

22 million russians died fighting the germans. you're being extremely insulting to their memory by pretending that america saved the world in 1945. it didn't.

what it did do was exploit the situation to make money, before , during, and after the war.

interesting article here

"George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy."

some things never change!

America also took the Nazi scientists and doctors who were performing tests and experiments and gassing Jewish people to death and gave new identities and immunity if they worked alongside our own scientists and traded secrets.

oh and Osama Bin Laden and friends a.k.a. Al-Quaida were also set up, trained, and paid by our own government to kill Russians.

but let's not kill ourselves with details

Indeed an interesting article - thanks man.

I enjoyed reading it and it was news to me. But I guess where there's money to earn a true kapitalist doesn't care about what the politics are.

Makes you wonder about a lot of things though...

how money rules the world could be one topic.
'what is good and what is evil?' could be another.

Anyway I won't go further into this now (too late) but give it a read, it IS an interesting article.

Just saw the last Guest post:

Yeah the world is fucked up. Nothing new there really. Good comment though pointing out those facts.

It seems that everone who gets too much power will loose their sanity. Whether it be a man or a whole country. Power (roughly) = insanity, one might be led to believe by the world history. It's probably true.

Best not to get too much power then. I won't go into politics. I want to keep my sanity for this life :)

why must we care about the past, today is today and we should be more worried about our future rather ran what happened in WW2.

germany usa and uk are all good now, c'mon its like saying you've never owned a german car or seen one.

i don't have much say in this but i just hope that when usa gets their new president they sort themselfs out and get the hell outta iraq, people are dying there for no reason at all, its not dying for your country, its dying for oil and war and thats just alot of bullshit.

racism is everywhere, my friend, just look around you. As one of my favourite stand-ups once said:

green olives are in a jar.
black olives are in a can.
how come the black olives don't get a window??

man, fuck the new 08 shit, I want my fucking Trigger back

[/irony]

seriously now, there's interesting stuff here. I'm not going to comment on politics opinions, because I wouldn't know what to say, but I'm another one interested in Obama. I just like someone for his good ideas, looks like Obama got some good ideas (but still I have to get more informed)

according to my utopia, what country we're from is futile. just remember we're from earth. we're all brothers and sisters anyway. coloured/uncoloured people, sexed people, healthy/handicapped people, believer/non-believer people. but also monkeys, spiders, flies, animals, insects, trees, lawn, mushrooms, even that piece of rock in my driveway. when this planet vanishes, we'll all vanish with it anyway, so let it just not be now

my priorities: environment, health, education, peace. "Mens sana in corpore sano." Bigger scale: Healthy society in healthy environment.
 if Obama chooses for that then I choose Obama

I don't know why we should forget the past. forgive all, but not forget. forget frustrations and tensions between nations, put the meter back to 0. just remember mistakes we made, not do 'em again

am I off topic??

1. Yes, that is true but here is a little something:

American industry had to support the nation's Allies as well as its own military expansion. Britain needed large amounts of munitions and equipment; and lend-lease aid, including tens of thousands of trucks and other vehicles and equipment, played an important part in mechanizing the Soviet Army.

http://www.worldwariihistory.info/WWII/ ... tates.html

2. The japanese had it coming to them. They were the ones that bombed Pearl Harbor and asked for war. The USA had no mercy on them so that is why the bombed the shit out of them.

The attack on Pearl Harbor or Hawaii Operation as it was called by the Imperial General Headquarters[6], was a surprise attack against the United States' naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese navy, on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, resulting in the United States becoming involved in World War II. It was intended as a preventive action to remove the U.S. Pacific Fleet as a factor in the war Japan was about to wage against Britain, the Netherlands, and the United States.

3. 22 million is a pretty high # for deaths (according to wikipedia it is 27 million) and you could have had a higher # deaths if it wasn't for the USA providing much needed supplies, soldiers and weapons to the allies (just read point #1).

4. America got involved in WWII because it was a matter of time before Germany conquered all of Europe and then they would have tried to invade America. The japanese made America get involved sooner than expected with their attack at Pearl Harbor. As a consequence of the war, America's economy improved because of supplies and other materials needed in Europe during and after the war.

1. orange county is made up of several towns and cities and not everyone there is rich like on tv

2. nuff said

3. what about fair and impartial coverage...obama is getting most of the air time...just look at hos trip overseas...obama was all over the press and it was like mccain went on vacation or something...because the media is promoting him

4. racism has always existed and always will...

5. who put the people into slavery???? other africans...white europeans did not go into the jungle and capture africans to sell...other africans did and the europeans bought them and sold them in the americas....

6. i am for cultural diversity...as i said i have no problem with anyones ethnicity...i just dont like assholes no matter what color they are...obama just doesnt make me feel like he puts this country first...as far as speaking english...everyone who takes advantage of what america has to offer should be able to speak english...not to say only english...we speak hungarian in our house as well as english and i will have my kids learn more languages...americans are behind the rest of the world in learning/speaking foreign languages

7. how do we know what he believes...only what he tells us and we assume that people never lie or haven agendas...i dont know...his actions will speak louder than words...he hasnt done much before this though

8. we can never "win" the war in iraq...that would require us to kill every male over the age of twelve and re-educate the remaninders...it is a culture of thousands of years...wont be undone in a couple generations but we do need to keep the region stable as we can and if it means having soldiers there....no soldier likes going there...i dont like people shooting at me...and they did...i dont like people trying to blow me up...and they tried....dont like being away from family for over two years...yes over 4000 soldiers have died so far... very tragic but that is a very real possibility in this line of work....how many people died on 9/11 from a terrorist attack....how many died from terrorism since we went into iraq??????????

9. he wants to be president...he would be a role model so i think him trying to make point about not doing those things sends a bad message...what is american arrogance????we seem to be the first nation everyone calls on when the shit hits the fan yet we are arrogant

10. He went to that church for many years then quit after all this came to light in the press....hmmmm

11. believe when it happens...why is he giving money to the middle class...i am sure that will make him popular...who dosent like free money but that is not a solution...and if getting a $1000 makes a big difference in your middle class life then you have bigger issues...it is a publicity stunt....dont know about universal health care...i think everyone is entitled to health care....who is going to pay for it...taxing the rich wont cover it....look at other countrie who have it...they pay for it by higher taxes and not just from the rich

12. technically the u.s. doesnt need the support of anyone...we could be totally self sufficient...we have oil, raw materials, the capability of feeding ourselves and we can manufacture anything but that wont happen...doesnt need to happen...how many economies are dependent on us...and speaking of NATO...basically the u.s. and england are nato...the other members are basically there for the protection membership provides...how do we need to make amends...for rebuilding europe and japan after the war...for winning the cold war...for bailing out numerous countries after they needed help...we have reason to be a little cocky...no other nation can do what we can do...we are the only global power...but no what do we have to be apologetic about...we havent done everything perfect but no one else has either

13. i am glad you have become a part of the "american dream"....america is truly the land of opprtunity...

i dont support obama...obviously...but mccain isnt perfect either...as with most presidential elections it is not about choosing the guy who is head and shoulders the better man but about choosing who is the the least fucked up...

from what I've heard, United States are taking a lot of ressources from Canada

Wood: we're a wood country, and a lot of wood is needed to print a New York Times Sunday Edition for everybody

Water: Québec/Ontario is a huge fresh water basin (one of the world's biggest) along with the Great Lakes, and I know some States (Colorado to name one) lack in fresh water. sure US are coming to fill a couple of bottles and go back home

Oil: I don't know if US are taking much or not, but I know Alberta is a huge basin of bituminous sands.

Minerals: want some of them too? :P

saying all this from memory

dont take it out of context...i am not advocating that....far from it...what i am trying to get across is that future generations will not change because the the same mindset is passed on to successive generations...i saw the same thing in bosnia...litttle kids saying they wanted to kill muslims, croats, serbs whoever, because that is what they have been taught

change will not come quickly or easily to the middle east...if ever

i have organized donations of school supplies and clothing for kids in bosnia and iraq because they are the future and any change for the better wil be through them

no reason to be scared

this thread is getting long winded so.......no one here is going to change who they like or what they believe because of anyhting that has been said here

just people exchanging opinions and ideas...i feel like i am the only guy here who doesnt think obama is the messiah come to save the u.s. and the world :dunno:

if he does get elected and turns things around i will be the first to say you are right...but i dont think that will happen

end of transmission
