In Bruges was great. Death Race (2008), on the other hand, was not.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holy_M ... (1973_film)
Very very Disturbing Surreal film...... absolutely bonkers..... the director wanted to make the movie into a powerful viewing experience... and he succeeded... I did check the watch a few times during the flick... as insane as it is it does sometime fall under the weight of it's own pretentiousness... but mostly it's spellbinding..... there's a hidden meaning to all the insanity... but you wont need a degree in philosophy to find out... just use your mind... what you think of the philosophy though... well....
the way you respond to this film will depend on your hability to stomach absolute insanity in film..... and LOTS of new age shit too... at times the rituals involved reminded me more of "brainwashing methods" for dangerous suicide cults... than methods to achieve "enlightenment"... whatever the fuk it is... wich probably says a lot of the gullible nature of "new-age" practitioners and believers... and the director himself....
anyway.. watch it if you love absolutely insane psychedelic imagery in film... there's plenty to enjoy in the purely visual side..... (mostly) shit philosophy... but awesome visuals.
Upon watching i realized that a scene in the middle of the film was used as inspiration for the video for Santogold's single "Les Artistes":

This film was also a huge inspiration on Mastodon's "Blood Mountain" concept metal album and videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-2alwdcmrs
You can see a portion of the film in this video by Juno Reactor:

Awesome videos by the way
