Speaking to Xfm Online at the Diesel U Music Awards at Fabric in East London earlier this week, Flint explained that after a two year break from playing live in the UK (the band last played at the Carling Reading and Leeds Weekender in August 2002) the Prodigy will finally be gigging later this year.
“We’re back out in October,” Flint explained, “We start in October then we’ve got a UK tour in December which is starting to get sorts pencilled in, we’ve got two shows at Brixton [Academy] and we’re gonna cover Liverpool, Manchester, Brixton and a few other shows, and Newcastle in between. We’re still tight and
we’re still rocking on and looking forward to doing shows again”
As for the new, seven years in completion, album ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’, Flint explained that while it’s less lyrically based than the band’s later output, he still intends to add his trademark vocals when time comes to perform it live.
“The album’s more of an instrumental thing. We’ve gone back to the roots,” he continued, “And now me and Maxim are working on putting vocals on top of that to take it live. So it’s like an ever evolving thing, it maybe got a bit stale towards the end because it had a format and now we’re just breaking the mould. More so with me and Maxim not doing the vocal thing, and now we’re working to build a show around the album that involves us all. That’s the vibe.”
And all this time off has seemingly done little to diminish the Prodigy’s self belief with Flint explaining that fans can expect an impressive live return.
“We just do good shows and that’s what people wanna see and that’s what people wanna check out. We give people them respect cos they turn up to see us play and we give it 110% and that’s what we always do.
“The thing with us, we’re just gonna come back, re-demand our territory which is the live zone, and we’re gonna come in and rock it. That’s plain and simple. It's always been the Prod way and that’s what we’re gonna do.”
'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' is reportedly pencilled in for an August 23 release and will be followed by a new single 'Girlz' on August 30.
