Just saw it tonight, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's 5 billion times better than the first AVP. The story holds true to the originals, and this one wasn't some bullshit PG-13 shit, this was a full on 'R' movie like all the previous Aliens and Predator movies were. I mean without giving anything away, you've got little kids, new-born babies, and pregnant women all feeling the wrath of the Alien in this one! A very pleasant surprise for a film I expected to be shit. A solid 7/10

it was entertaining, but after this and 30 days of night i'm wondering where have scary horror films with characters you can feel for gone? there's no suspense if you don't give a shit about the people getting killed, and the first alien film was scary because you didn't see the alien all the time.

yeah, it was better than the 1st alien vs predator, but then that's not saying much really. it would be hard to be worse!

heard there's a script for aliens 5 out there somewhere, so hoping a non hollywood studio gets to make it.

That has more to do with casting. In the 70s/80s they would cast a lot of well respected English stage actors in horror/monster movies. Today they're always going for that teen audience, and hence you get actors that look like they should be on The Hills. One of the biggest mistakes horror/monster movies make is like you said, you don't care if the characters die (and often times like in the first AVP they're so annoying you actually want them to die). If you think of a classic monster movie Jaws, you really care about all 3 men on the boat. Today it would be some 20-something kids, and one really annoying fuck you wanted to see eaten. That's the difference todays movies.

Just saw the movie on TV! Dear God, thank you that I didn't spend money to watch this in cinema, because:
