Big Day Out Festival 2002
With a funny little intro from The Kinks "Girl, I want,
to be with you, all of the time..." they kicked into:
01. Their Law
One of the most energetic live tracks by them ever, pure anarchy, crowd on
it's feel never resting.... leading into
02.Trigger
This is a new song and proved quite popular for it's first showing here (And
fifth ever), very likely to be one of the singles to be released this year
in face of the release of their fourth album... by my judgement anyways
03. Breathe
Everyone knew this one... "Breathe the Pressure..."
04. Untitled
What I think is a cover of someone else's song, has Keith singing "Baby's
Got a Temper", I just can't think of who it's by yet... nicely done though,
another one for the new album it seems. Keith's singing has improved too!
05. Smack My Bitch Up
"Who in here tonight want's to hear some bass?" was a question by Maxim...
The answer of course was a mass of heaving bodies on the first "boom"...
Pure energy, slow but hard...
06. Nuclear
Another new track, also it's fifth showing ever, and first here, it's a very
Sex Pistols like track, full of energy, not sure if it worked that well
live, but it'd sound lovely on my stereo...
07. Poison
Another old gem, had Maxim screaming at us like hell. Nice and slow hip hop,
yet mad like anything.
08. Mindfields
Another hip hop track, bass at it's best, from The Fat Of The Land, it was
celarly the highlight for Dave.
09. Firestarter
Hehehe, Keith at his maddest, screaming his lungs at us. Everyone knew this
too.
10. Encore - Fuel My Fire
The last track on the Fat Of The Land, and also an energetic live ender,
proved a bit of a disappointment for me as it's not my favourite track...
Points to note: Kieron Pepper was behind the drums, and though I couldn't
make it out from the distance it looked like Jimmy Davies was back behind
the guitar, it just didn't look like the female guitarist that was reported
to have been doing the 4 European shows late last year.
Maxim had a new
hairstyle, which had his dreads collected two "pig-tails"... rather amusing
I thought. How could you take him seriously when he's saying "You wanna fuck
with me?" with that hairstyle. There was nothing new about Keith.
Review by Ivan Vukovic.
